The unit seems to work fine. However, be prepared to find some way other than the supplied suction cups to mount it. The suction cups lost their shape and will no longer stick to the windshield.
The fancy carrying case is totally useless, and I doubt that many people would want to use the external speaker. I believe that these items should be offered as optional accessories rather than being included with the detector. This would substantially reduce the price of the detector.

which radar detector is the best one, Beltronics Beltronics Sti Driver Radar Detector STI or Escort Passport 9500i?
Which is sold more than the other.Please help.

The popularity of radar devices changed basically during the decades. Radar signals were used first in research of military interest, then radar was used widely in the navigation, especially in the marine navigation. The research and the results were secret in the 1940s and became part of the everyday life in the 60s. Today you can find very popular products in the electronics stores open for the general public.

Radar detectors for motorists were developed nearly at the same time as police started to use radar gun to pick drivers for speeding, motorists started to use the small mobile devices to "discover" radar signals in due time.

Beltronics USA

Motorists may find different brands on the market in big price range. For years, Beltronics (TM) products are among the most popular Beltronics Sti Driver Radar Detector radar devices on the electronics market covering the diversified demand of the growing number of motorists. Beltronics offer eight radar detectors in the stores and online auction sites: 4 from the Vector family, 3 from the PRO series (two RX65 and one GX65) and the STi Driver.

All the 8 devices have some common features:

* POP Radar Alert

* Quick Release Windshield Mount

* AutoScan (TM) Filter (with the exception of Vector 940)

* AutoMute on/off

* Startup Fast/Slow

* SWS on/off

* Earphone Jack

* 360 degree Laser

STi Driver Detector

While each radar detector has 2 or 3 city-modes in the US, only 4 (Vector 995, RX65 Red, RX65 Blue and GX65) have Ku-band for Europe. The new STi Driver offers 9 Selectable Features, Dual Radar Antenna Design, Coiled SmartPlug(TM), High Performance Cord, External Amplified Speaker, Hard Travel Case and much more. The most important technical news is the use of TotalShield(TM) Technology. STi Driver is preferred by motorcyclists using it with wireless helmet display.

GX65

Beltronics USA names this product "the most sophisticated radar and laser detector in the world". GX65 delivers the best long-range warning on all radar bands (X, K, Superwide Ka, Ku). The laser sensors provide 360 degree laser protection. The built-in GPS powered technology offers permanent relief from false alarms. Its built-in database is a vault of information: the coordinates of the red light and fixed position speed camera locations in the United States and Canada are preloaded.

    I’ve been using radar detectors for 30 years and settled on Beltronics. Had an RX65 for about 3 years and it worked well for me until someone stole it. I didn’t want to buy a new one as it seemed best to save cash and skip the radar for a while. Then I got a ticket on my way to Church with the family. Yes, I was speeding – 60 mph in a 45 zone but the officer said I was doing 71 and gave me a big expensive ticket. (Asked if I could see the radar in his car and he responded that he didn’t have the radar on.) Anyway, I was frustrated. Less than a week later I was driving and trying to be careful with the speed but spaced out for a few seconds while talking with others in the car – and got another ticket.

    If I’d have bitten the cost I would not have gotten any tickets so I picked up the STi. I’ve had it for 2 years with no tickets. Saved myself big bucks as it’s never failed to let me know when I happen to have wandered over the speed limit and someone’s there to make me pay.

    Buy it. It’s the best windshield mount detector.

    One gripe I have is that the auto dim function is not very sensitive and it takes a few steps to change the dimming of the unit versus quick access via a front button.

    Unfortunately, the Bel sti did not function properly when it arrived at my home and was missing integral parts as well. I had to request the replacement parts from the manufacturer in Ohio in order to ascertain if the product functioned. It did not! I, then, had to ship it to BEL for repair at additional cost. When I received the STI, it functioned properly after factory recalibration. If my experience is an example of Amazon’s quality control of a product, it does not exist!

    My Radar detector was purchased January 2010. One month later the detector stopped working and would not turn on. I verified it was not the power source or the cable; the unit was receiving power but would not turn on. Well I wasn’t too happy but I knew it was covered by a 1 Year warranty. I called up Beltronics only to find out that they DO NOT HONOR WARRANTY CLAIMS for products purchased from Amazon.com!!! Even worse, they wanted $79.99 + shipping to fix the unit. Needless-to-say, I find their level of customer service inadequate and disconcerting given the volume of product they sell through this site. I will not purchase another Beltronics product and would advise highly against it given their lack of professionalism in standing behind the quality of their own product.

    Have this radar detector and am pleased with operation. Has all the bells and whistles until it gets hot. Assuming radar detectors are to be mounted on the dash or windshield, when this baby gets in the sun, you get a display memo that tells you to contact Bel for information. Upon contacting Bel, I find out that if the unit gets too hot, it shuts itself down and has to be sent in to repair at $40 a shot plus your shipping. This unit was a gift and therefore, I could stick the warranty in my ass. No receipt, no service. Unit was 8 months old when it overheated and Bel wouldn’t do anything without a receipt. I called numerous times to get it repaired or replaced, to no avail. One would think when you spend $600 for a radar detector, you might just get some customer service. With Beltronics, you can keep it for a paper weight. Beltronics has the worst customer service in the industry. As they say in China: no ticky, no laundry.
