I purchased this unit based upon several reliable on-line reviews for its accuracy and comparisons to other competing brands in the same price range. My experience in use, is that its performance is only adequate. I get false alerts from other stationary sources like microwave/cellphone towers and commercial building alarm systems. Recently, while driving, I passed a motorcycle patrolman and my laser alert warning did not activate until I was practically on top of him. I am finding that the laser alert function is functionally useless. I tried to save some money by buying a mid-range product rather than the high-end stuff and I got what I paid for — mid-range performance.

I have used this unit on highway driving and it is fantastic at picking up highway cops running their radars.
However, if you drive mainly in suburban / urban areas you will pick up false signals (automatic door openers set all the radar detectors off). For example anytime I drive past a 7-11 / Walgreens / Grocery Store the detector will get set off because of the automatic doors. It has a “city” feature which will turn down the sensitivity of the detector, which cuts down on the false positives but does not eliminate them.
I work with someone who has a $400 detector and he effectively has the same issues. He has the GPS unit that you can “train” to block out (by saving the location coordiantes) those false positives based on your location (ie. you drive past the same grocery store each day and it gets set off — the GPS will remember that location and mute the detector); so pretty much for $40 you are getting the same functionality of the $400 GPS enabled unit, but you will not be able to block out the false positives.
I typically only use mine when I get on the highway and it is great for that. I have dodged a few tickets with cops in underpassses or at the bottom of hills by following this thing.
I highly recommend the unit, but I do not believe ANYONE has created a unit that will not get false readings. The GPS units do work to block false positives but they are pretty expensive still.
This is a great price at $40.
I purchased two of these inexpensive radar detectors for my wife and kid’s cars, mostly to keep them from getting tagged on a photo radar ticket for $80. The Cobra works pretty well with a couple of glaring problems. Mainly, the L or Laser alert falses all of the time and, seemingly, for no reason. The alarm will sound in strange places like parking lots, side streets, and alleys. I’m pretty sure there’s no Laser-sighted radar being used in my alley. Each of the bands has a different sounding alarm, which is good, except they all sound like a something from a 1980’s arcade game. I’ve compared the performance of the Cobra to my Escort Solo and the Cobra is definitely less sensitive. My Escort picked up a photo radar van from more than a half a mile away, while the Cobra was nearly in sight of the van. Still, the alarm was early enough to slow down before getting a ticket. Of course, the best thing about the Cobra is the price. It’s an amazing value for a relatively sophisticated detector. If all you’re looking for is a little extra help spotting the occassional speed trap, then the Cobra will get the job done, as long as you’re aware of the limitations. Serious speeding should be left to the pricier Escorts, Valentines, and Beltronics.
I ordered this item because of the low price and decent reviews. The unit was unable to detect any k band radar units even when stopped behind an active radar at a traffic signal although it was able to detect a few door sensors at various banks. I placed my 4 year old radar detector alongside this unit to confirm my findings and found that this unit was not functioning properly and subsequently returned the item. Due to other satisfactory reviews it may be that I just happen to receive a defective unit and my experience is not typical.
this product is great the only two downsides are the 360 degree feature dosent work all that well i switch between two vehicles a truck and a suv and in the trcuk it works great picking up signales behind me but in the suv not so much and the false alerts are bad like turn it off if your driving through a strip mall or somewhere where stores are grouped togather but other than that the product is great i have not been hit with a laser yet but on the open highway or freeway it gets great distance the city mode is kinda bad but it works i just leave it on highway but im deffently going to buy a second one for my suv ond leave the other in my truck
I have been using this product for well over 3 months already n at first it was not senstive bit when I started to play around with the setting I found it to be very senstive… When I first got it had a hard time picking up the ka band. But since now I have set it up the right way. I usually pick up the ka band from 2 to 3 miles away. And the laser from a cop about a mile away. It’s a really good radar detector and I recommend you to get it but I will say you have to play with the settings before you use it. If anyone has any questions just as me I’ll glady help you out…
I recently bought the Cobra XRS 9345 14 band radar/laser detector for a road trip from upstate NY down the Jersey shore to Wildwood, NJ, about a 6 hour ride. During that time this product worked great 50% of the time, and the other 50% it was a complete let down. The biggest shock of this product was it’s changing range of operation. Sometimes it would pick up a police car sitting 1-2 miles up the road. Other times it would not go off until I was 20 feet from the cop car. The X band goes off way too much, often false alarms, and the K band really never goes off. The laser gun also seems to have terrible range. I visibly saw the state trooper aiming the laser gun at me and the dectector still took another 3-5 seconds to go off. However, as mentioned, sometimes it works great. On the trip there was a large curve in the highway, with a police car hiding behind a wall about a mile down the curve. The Kc Band went off a solid .5 miles before I even saw the cop, giving plenty of time to slow down. Overall, you’re taking a 50-50 chance with this product based on my opinion.
Nice price, works well so far. Esay to set up. I am not using it a lot because I usually don’t drive too fast. Bought it after getting a speeding ticket. I only use it on highway while driving faster than 65 mph. It beeped a couple of time, but haven’t seen a cop so far. It beeps when you go through EZ pass or sth. You could say it is a little sensitive, but it is totally acceptable. Good buy, I would say, if you only need it for precaution on highway.
Ive been using radar detectors for sometime, and for the money, this is a no go. The “extreme range” the product says it has is very limited. The radar detector was not picking up signal until 1/8th to 1/4th of a mile from the police car. For that matter even at point blank range, the signal strength was only registering a 1. City mode will only pickup a 3 (max 5)or higher signal, but again a 1, and sometimes not even registering when you could reach out and touch the police car in an obvious radar shooting situation. That said,it did work at times but was rather inconsistent. Highway mode in the city will drive you crazy as the 14 bands are not necessary, and most police are on the x band anyhow. That said the mounted position may be the problem, in the past I have always mounted from the windshield as this one is mounted to the dash. Thus, if you do by this product I reccomend you mount from the windshield as the dash mount does not allow the product full field of view.
This unit works great if your primary concern is a hidden system.There are other conventional units that outperform it of course. I like the outside temp sensor and am using it to monitor my intake air temp.I also added a second laser detector so I have them front & rear but am disappointed I can’t add a radar antenna to the rear like the old model.
This is the second Whistler remote radar detector I’ve owned, with the first one from 2004, and they haven’t changed much at all, except for a few minor improvements with the screen being able to be turned for various mounting positions. I like this detector. It seems to work better than my Cobra remote on another car, and I really like the outdoor air temperature sensor and battery voltage read from the screen. I like it’s compactness, especially important for the display and it’s mounting ability, as open locations in dashes on modern cars are tough to find and sometimes to get to as well. There are some changes I would like. Even on it’s City modes, which are supposed to block out more false alarms, it still has many false alarms. Secondly, the new blue screen is very hard to read except at night; any stray sunlight blows it out. Finally, the laser detector needs more mounting options. Trying to aim it front and back is very tough. This could be easily solved with more mounting options, like lenses for both front and back on all sides and a mount that can click into the top AND bottom AND side instead of only the top. They designed this to be mounted onto the windshield and I don’t like anything mounted to the windshield, so I mount it to the rear view mirror mount. Also, the display itself could benefit from being smaller, as well as the wire plugs, as they can be a pain to run thru the firewall and find ample room in a dash to mount. Finally, it would be nice if it could be programmed to read the battery voltage at start up and every so many seconds, with temperature the rest of the the time, instead of only one and having to remember which button to push for two seconds to change from one to the other. Overall, it is a good product, with good detection, and good mounting options, especially for the price. Better mounting options, programmable options, and false detection avoidance would greatly improve this good value product even more.
I just upgraded to another BMW and of course bought me another Whistler Pro3450. Having it installed in the same place as the others, the receiver right below the license plate. The indicator will be to the left of the steering column right over the parking brake release. Can’t see it from either door, so just a push of a button and it stays silent in case you need it to be. Other detectors claim 3 – 5 mile detection. Who cares, I want to have good detection within a 1/2 mile on the freeway and a 1/4 mile for city driving, that’s when it’s most important.
The Whistler is a solid unit that lasts for a long time. I have mine set in City 2 mode and that works best for false alarms. I’m not a speedy driver, but some times you are over the limit and it’s nice to have a detector that will let you know of a spreed trap. This is my 3rd unit and I’m picky what I buy. I do my research and get the best for the money. No suction cups or laying on the dash, this unit is remote which means the receiver is located outside the car and is connected to the indicator inside the car. Clean to the sight, soft chirp or louder if needed, and the light can also be dimmed for night driving. That’s my .02
If you want a reliable radar detector that does not sit on your dashboard or stick to your windshield and does not cost an arm and a leg, this is it. You need to be a little bit handy to install it. It is your basic remote detector, but gets the job done. I have used this product as well as other Whistler products for many years with no complaints.
Thus far, this unit appears to do the job it was designed to do. Many programing options gives ability to customize unit.
I recently bought model XSR9945, first it is big and heavy. The windshield suction cup is a terrible design, it won’t hold up the unit and the suction cups won’t stick to the windshield ( there too small). The power cord is too short to reach my windshield in a Subaru Outback. The power cord should be a straight cord, without the curls to reach and maybe put out of the way to your vision (if you can get it to stay on the windshield, mine’s on the dash now). I would probably go to a store next time to see how big it is before I bought another one, size does matter !

I was looking at the Bell’s but when I seen all the extra features the Whistler has and it was $60 cheaper, it was a no brainer. Sine receiving the Whistler I have not been disappointed in it’s performance. It’s a great fuzz-buster!
my third whistler. so far, no complaints, works fine. sometimes goes into a fit with no obvious targets in sight, might be responding to other radar detectors?
Since I bought my XTR695, it has helped me stay aware of my speeds and given me plenty of time to make necessary adjustments. I had a radar hit me in one of these small hick towns here in SC where all the cops do is try to get you for going 2 miles over the limit to ticket you and my detector gave me plenty of time of warning. I set my cruise control and didn’t give a cop a reason to pull me over. I’m still playing with my detector which probably has more features than I know what to do with, but its a great investment. I’ve gotten warnings from areas when I didn’t even see a cop, but right around the corner or bend, there he is sitting in the cut some where waiting. I have very few issues with false alarms, I keep it on Highway where ever I go, I rather have it go off when I ride by a CVS or Walgreens store with automatic door openers than be sorry. As long as this unit is working, I don’t see myself getting another ticket no time soon. I would recommend this unit if you want that extra amount of security when leaving your drive way. It has saved me on quite a few occasions that normally would have had the cop beading down on me. This radar also picks up signals from behind well too.
This thing works really well. After driving for 2 weeks with this nice little cops detectors I can tell that in Utah most highway patrol cops use radars with a frequency 34.7 GHz and 35.5 Ghz, sometimes I can see 34.9 or 34.3 GHZ. Some State troopers use K band only radars and this guy will tell you what it is. Basically, I got a ticket from a state trooper for 230$ and decided it’s time for to know where they’re hiding. This radar detector spotted an evil Dodge of local highway patrol behind the bridge where he was hiding. No way I’d see him. On Friday nights Highway patrols are all over the place, last week of a month the same thing.This detectors keeps me in check all the time and I’ve avoided many tickets since and it’d paid off its cost. 4 stars cos it gives false signals on X band(like all others do) and sometimes screams on K and KA band also false. But guys, don’t be fooled if you pass a highway patrol car on the road that just pulled someone over and it doesn’t go off, it doesn’t go off because at the moment that cop pulled someone over he fixes his speed and his radar is not working anymore. Also don’t be fooled when it doesn’t go off when a police car drives behind you, not all police cars have speed radars, cos they’re not highway patrol! So don’t expect it to go off near 911 police or some detective.. Hope you drive safe and never get a ticket.
I ordered this from Amazon and when it arrived it had a sticker on it that stated the scrambler was deactivated. I’m not sure if this is because I’m in Colorado where these are illegal or if they all are like that from Amazon. I returned it and Amazon gave a prompt refund. If you read the reviews it’s controversial whether the scrambler works or is just a gimmick/scam, but if there’s no scrambler, you might as well just get a better radar detector. I have an older version of the RMR that I have been using for many years and I have never gotten a ticket when using it. I did get a ticket once when I forgot to turn it on, not sure if that’s just a coindidence.
